OUR PROJECTS

White-lion

White Lion Breeding Project

White Lions are not albinos. Their white color is caused by a recessive trait derived from a less-severe mutation in the same gene that causes albinism, distinct from the gene responsible for white tigers. They vary from blonde to near-white. This coloration does not appear to pose a disadvantage to their survival. The white lions of the Global White Lion Protection Trust (GWLPT) have been reintroduced into their natural habitat and have been hunting and breeding successfully without human intervention for a significant amount of time.

White lions are exceptionally rare and hunted exactly for it’s rarity. Therefor making it imperative to breed with these beautiful animals to enable our society to re-introduce them into the wild, which has thus far, been proven a huge success.

White Tiger Breeding Project

The last recorded White Tiger ever seen in the wild was shot in 1958 in India. For a white Bengal tiger to be born, both parents must carry the unusual gene for white colouring, which only happens naturally about once in 10,000 births. With the Tiger population already under pressure globally, and being even more rare than our local White Lions, we, as nature conservationists, are obligated to preserve this majestic creature for future generations to come.
